Miriam Bucheli, PhD -  Artist & Scientist

As both an artist and scientist, my journey has always been shaped by the intersection of art and scientific exploration. Growing up in Ecuador, surrounded by lush and diverse natural landscapes, inspired my early love of drawing and painting. Although I went on to earn a PhD in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology and build a career in research and academia, my passion for art never faded.

In 2015, I began bringing my scientific background and artistic practice together, sharing and selling my work across a range of media, including fine art prints, coloring books, and a children’s book. My artistic education continued at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games & Animation, where I explored cutting-edge digital art techniques. I later earned a Certificate in Natural Science Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and am currently pursuing a Diploma in Botanical Illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.

Today, my work brings together the precision of scientific observation with the beauty and expressive possibilities of botanical art. Working in graphite, watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil, I combine traditional botanical techniques with contemporary digital elements, including augmented reality. Through this blend of science, art, and technology, I invite viewers to see the natural world from a different perspective.
